Congratulations!
You are taking the first step on a journey toward greater understanding of your body and the symptoms you are experiencing. Remember, the rapid changes in the way you are feeling should not be blindly attributed to the “aging process” or “depression”. Your inability to lose weight likely lies in your body chemistry and not lack of “willpower”. You are likely feeling a combination of gradual hormonal balance alterations brought on by stress, activity, diet, and medications in addition to aging.
Our goal is to help you better understand why you feel this way by looking carefully at your body’s fragile hormone balance
The History
At the first visit I will review your comprehensive symptom history to best understand what is bothering you most. Please answer as honestly as you can.
The Saliva Testing
At the end of your first visit, I will recommend saliva testing of your reproductive, adrenal, and/or thyroid hormones. Saliva testing has been shown in the medical literature to be an accurate measurement of real tissue hormone levels. Blood testing for some hormones (any steroid hormone like Estrogens, Cortisol, and Testosterone) are not biologically available and hence be inaccurate. One exception is Thyroid testing which can be adequate in blood if the free T3 and T4 hormones are ordered in addition to a TSH. Specific instructions for collecting the saliva sample are on the back of this page.
